Homeostasis

Homeostasis is, "the tendency for physiological systems to stabilize internal conditions" (Martini, 1992, p. 6).  Kabat-Zinn (1990) refers to homeostasis as, "internal balance" (p. 244).  Any threat to homeostasis (called a stressor) will create stress and trigger off the stress reaction cycle.
